Suffolk County criminal defense attorney Glenn Obedin discusses how he got started in criminal defense law and his main area of practice which is defending people accused of and/or arrested for committing federal crimes.
Born and raised in New York, I graduated from law school, Benjamin Cordoza Law School in Manhattan in 1987, began working in criminal defense work in 1988 and have been working steadily in that field since.
In law school you don’t really specialize in any particular aspect of law, you learn a broad range of different aspects of law. When I interviewed with criminal defense attorneys, I realized almost immediately that that was for me. I like the idea of being in the court room day to day, the challenge of the trial work and really above all the idea of being able to represent people in need and many people don’t think of criminal defendants as people in need, but that’s exactly what they are.
I mainly focus on higher level criminal cases, homicides, and federal work.
