The first thing that I think makes a good criminal defense attorney is a belief in the system – a belief that every person is entitled to and deserves a vigorous defense, and it starts from there.
Then it’s a passion to always do your best and to do a good job. But that is the challenge of coming up against an adversary, in this case a prosecutor, and making sure that your client’s interests are considered or defended and that everything that can be done for somebody who is really put with their back against the wall is done for them.
You are there for them, you are really their only defense and they rely upon you. It’s an incredible job to undertake, but that’s what it is. It’s a passion and a belief in the system.
